ORLANDO — Tis the season for holiday shopping, Christmas parties, wreaths on the door and Christmas trees in the living room – and seasonal hiring.
The holidays bring new opportunities for those seeking part-time employment — working while other flock to the region’s tourist attractions. For SeaWorld, upcoming holiday attractions mean that they will need more temporary workers through the end of the year, while at shipping giant UPS, all those packages large and small that get mailed out in November and December means they need additional help as well.
Theme parks ring up big business during the holidays. Starting on Nov. 22, SeaWorld kicks off its SeaWorld Christmas Celebration, which includes a journey to the North Pole on The Polar Express Experience, penguins at the South Pole at the Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, Christmas carols being performed, and skaters dancing on ice.
With all that going on, the theme park – as well as Discovery Cove and Aquatica, SeaWorld’s waterpark — are hiring for positions which “can last through the holiday and spring seasons,” SeaWorld noted in a news release. “All three Orlando parks are looking to fill a variety of positions, including food service attendants, park operations hosts, line cooks and more. “
Starting pay is $9 an hour, and applicants need to be at least 18 years old to qualify. Team members who get hired become eligible for numerous benefits, the theme park noted, and that includes free entry to SeaWorld Orlando and Aquatica, tickets for friends and family, and access to other events.

Plenty of Florida residents, and the region’s many national and international tourists, flock to the theme parks during the holidays. Area residents also send, and order, plenty of packages over the holidays, so it’s no surprise that UPS just announced it will hire more than 7,600 Floridians for the peak holiday season.
UPS is looking for drivers, driver helpers and package handlers to work in the distribution centers.
