ORLANDO — Attention, accomplished and aspiring playwrights! If you’re in Central Florida and want some feedback on your latest work, the Playwrights’ Round Table has your number.
For years, PRT has been supporting local and even national playwrights, giving them a sounding board among other writers for their work in progress by hosting regular Play Reading Workshops. Their next one will be on Sunday, Aug. 10.
“PRT exists as a way for anyone who has the inspiration to write plays to explore their love of their craft and the arts,” the theater group noted. “If you are a playwright looking for a friendly, non-judgmental, supportive place to hone your skills, PRT welcomes you!
“And if you are an actor, a fan of new plays, or love creative endeavors, please join us! It’s a great way to network and have some fun!”
What’s Happening at the Next Playwrights Workshop?
The August in-person session will be at Arcie Estate, 4520 Arcie St., in Orlando from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
“Join us for camaraderie, fellowship, fun, networking, brunch, and of course, great new plays,” PRT notes.
Then on Monday, Aug. 11, their monthly online workshop will take place via Zoom from 7-10 p.m. as a workshop designed for local and long-distance writers who can’t make the in-person workshop.
To participate in either workshop, RSVP to theprtfl@gmail.com or visit their Facebook page.
“For the in-person workshop, please bring any copies you have of your script — enough for each character and one for reading stage directions. Upon request, we can make copies and bring them to the workshop for you,” PTR notes.
In September, the in-person edition of the workshop will be on Sunday, Sept. 8, same location, from 1-4 p.m.
“As always, the workshop is free and open to the public,” the group notes.
The next online workshop is Monday, Sept. 9 via Zoom from 7-10 p.m.
“For the online workshop, please email us a copy of your play to theprtfl@gmail.com; we are limited to reading 4 to 5 plays per online session, so it is first-come, first-served,” PRT notes. “We prefer shorter scripts due to the time frame. If you have a full-length you’re working on, send us the first 15 pages.”
What’s Up Next for Playwrights’ Round Table?
PRT is also gearing up for Native Voices, their annual production of new local plays, which will be held over the weekends of Nov. 1-3 and Nov. 8-10 at the Imagine Performing Arts Center, 1220 Oviedo Mall Boulevard, Oviedo. These two weekends will feature 8 original plays making their theatrical debut.
PRT is also encouraging local residents to become a Friend of PRT.
“Love our shows? Enjoy our workshops? Appreciate how we contribute to our local arts scene, or just want to lend support to a great local arts organization? Become a FRIEND OF PRT!”
For a membership fee of $15 a year, new PRT members get:
- Recognition in their program playbills and on the PRT website
- Admission to special post-show events
- Discounts on tickets to their annual productions
“Best of all, your Friends membership helps support one of the veteran theater companies in Orlando in its mission to become a leader in the development and production of new plays,” PRT notes.
To become a Friend of PRT, send $15 via PayPal to theprtfl@gmail.com or a check to Playwrights’ Round Table, 4696 Middlebrook Road, # J, Orlando FL 32811. “In either case, please mention that you are joining as a Friend of PRT,” the group notes.
