KISSIMMEE — It started, deputies would later report, with a knock on a door and a request for a glass of water.
It ended with a man who got stabbed and left bleeding on the ground, in critical condition.
It also led to the quick arrest of a suspect, Hector Ramos, who the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said confessed to the stabbing and blamed the victim’s past attempts to pester him for money and drugs.
Twis Lizasuain, public information officer for the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, reported that Ramos, 33, of 139 Jones Lane, Apartment B in Kissimmee, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with attempted murder.
Around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Lizasuain reported, the sheriff’s office got a call from the apartment complex on Jones Lane, and were told a man was bleeding to death in front of one of the apartments.
When the deputies got to the scene, they “discovered a large amount of blood and a man sitting outside of 141 Jones Lane,” Lizasuain noted in her arrest report.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, was airlifted to Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee and is listed in critical condition.
While investigating the stabbing, deputies were directed to the next apartment, Unit 139, and they spoke with Ramos.
Ramos admitted to deputies that he knew the victim — and had problems with him in the past, Lizasuain reported.
Ramos “indicated he knows the victim who constantly comes over to threaten him and demand money and drugs,” Lizasuain said.
Earlier that day, Ramos told deputies, the victim came back to his unit once again.
“On this occasion, the victim came over to ask for a glass of water and insisted on going inside the residence,” Lizasuain noted. “When the victim would not leave, Ramos went into residence to retrieve a kitchen knife and came outside and stabbed the victim several times.”
Ramos also told deputies he had been acting in self-defense, Lizasuain said, but she added that deputies questioned that.
“Ramos told deputies he was scared and defending himself, but he could not explain why he did not call law enforcement for assistance,” she said. “Based on the information he provided and the evidence, Ramos was charged with attempted murder and booked into the Osceola County Jail.”
