David Scheib was on probation for possessing child pornography when he got re-arrested on Wednesday on the same charges.
WINTER HAVEN – He’s a government worker with the U.S. Postal Service, who also happens to be on felony probation.
His problems just got worse, though, now that 42-year-old David Scheib is also facing 50 counts of possession of child pornography.
Scheib, a United States postal worker at the Florence Villa Post Office in Winter Haven, and his roommate, Michael E. Reynolds, 42, were arrested on Wednesday by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, accused of downloading child pornography on their computers.
The sheriff’s office said they definitely had the evidence they needed for the arrests.
“The images viewed on Scheib’s computer were of nude boys and girls from the ages of approximately 2 months to teenagers engaged in sex acts and/or images that focused on the children’s genitals,” noted Scott H. Wilder, director of communications for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, in his report on the arrests.
“Images found on Reynolds’ computer were of pre-pubescent girls, less than 10-years-old, posed in lewd positions with the focus of the images on their genitals, and images of pre-pubescent girls engaged in sex acts,” Wilder added.
Scheib, of 4779 Elon Crescent in Lakeland, is currently on felony probation for unauthorized computer access. He was charged with 50 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of violation of probation — probation related to a plea bargain for a prior arrest on June 16, 2009 for possession of child pornography.
Reynolds, who is Scheib’s roommate, was charged with 11 counts of possession of child pornography.
Wilder said on Wednesday morning, Polk County Sheriff’s detectives served a search warrant at the Lakeland home, following an investigation into the possibility that Scheib may have been downloading child pornography onto his computer. Scheib was not home when the search warrant was being executed, but detectives said Reynolds was, and he told deputies that Scheib was house sitting for a friend and had not been home since Friday, July 13.
Michael Reynolds of Lakeland faces 11 counts of possession of child pornography.
“While conducting a forensic preview of computers located in the residence, detectives found numerous images of child pornography on Reynolds’ desk top computer,” Wilder said, leading to Reynolds’ arrest.
Later that day, detectives went to the Florence Villa Post Office looking for Scheib. According to detectives, Scheib confirmed that he was house sitting and provided the address, “then refused to answer any questions and requested an attorney,” Wilder noted.
Detectives got a search warrant for the home at 9 Lake Arrow Head Drive in Winter Haven where Scheib was house sitting, and did a forensic preview on his computer, which Wilder said contained “more than 1,500 files depicting child pornography,” including more than 500 videos.
“Fifty files were viewed and confirmed to be child pornography,” Wilder noted.
Wilder said this investigation is ongoing, “and more charges may be forthcoming for both suspects.”
