MAITLAND — Like a lot of metropolitan areas, Central Florida is a great place for opera lovers to enjoy the classics. Some of those performances are now being done in a rather unique setting: a popular Italian restaurant in the Orlando suburb of Maitland.
Francesco’s Ristorante & Pizzeria specializes in serving oven-fired Italian dishes and pizzas in an antiques-chic space, complete with a bar serving cocktails and some outdoor seating. Located at 400 S. Orlando Ave. in Maitland, the restaurant recently expanded in a unique way, offering more than simply food and drinks.
Try opera.
In February, Francesco’s launched Opera Nights to give their patrons an even more unique taste of Italy.
What are Opera Nights at Francesco’s?
The merger of opera in an Italian dining establishment makes perfect sense, considering that opera originated in Italy in the late 16th century, where it was born in Florence and became a cornerstone of Italian culture.
“Western opera traditions all trace back to Italy,” notes the website Italian Dual Citizenship. “These highly dramatic performances grew out of a very dramatic political landscape. The Italian Renaissance funded the burgeoning new style of play that paired high Greek drama with contemporary music. From the beginning, Italian opera married beauty and spectacle with deep feeling and commentary on the human condition. It was entertainment for the elite, a spectacle for the eye, the ear, and the heart.”
It’s a rich history that Francesco’s has invested in.
Live performances in dining settings are not new; for decades, theaters have experimented with live shows as part of a dinner theater. Only this time, Francesco’s brought live opera right into their dining room.
“Opera Night at Francesco’s is an elegant dining experience that brings together exceptional Italian cuisine and the timeless beauty of live opera,” the restaurant notes. “Whether you’re an opera enthusiast or experiencing it for the first time, Opera Night offers a unique blend of culture, music, and fine dining, perfect for a special night out, a celebration, or simply something extraordinary.”
As the restaurant points out, just as their award-winning chefs create every plate with love and passion, they want guests to enjoy the live opera performances as their meals are being served, making for a truly special and memorable night.
“Join us for an evening where great food meets great music, only at Francesco’s,” the restaurant notes.
And Opera Nights are not the only special deal this Italian restaurant is offering.
What are the Cooking Classes at Francesco’s?

In March, the restaurant will be reviving another popular tradition: their cooking classes. Do you love fine Italian meals? Learn from the chefs at Francesco’s how to perfect them.
“We are excited to announce that our Cooking Classes are officially back at Francesco’s, and we’re kicking things off on March 1 with a delicious deep dive into one of Italy’s most beloved ingredients, artichokes,” the restaurant notes. “Of course, no Francesco’s class would be complete without great food, great wine, and a fun, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re a seasoned home cook or just love Italian cuisine, this class is perfect for you.”
Since these classes traditionally fill up quickly and spaces are limited, the restaurant is encouraging patrons to call and reserve a spot, adding “We can’t wait to cook with you!”
Francesco’s also has launched a Loyalty Program for customers, “created to say thank you for dining with us and supporting Francesco’s. Now, every time you dine with us, you’ll earn rewards toward future visits — because great food should come with great perks.”
Patrons who join the Loyalty Program will also receive exclusive offers and “surprises, and special rewards just for members. Joining is simple, and it’s our way of giving back to the guests who make Francesco’s feel like home,” the staff notes.
