CELEBRATION – Members of the armed services who are coming home from the conflicts in the Middle East will be readjusting to life back home and with their families.
If they happen to live in Central Florida, or plan to vacation here, one local resort is reaching out to them, offering them a special discount in honor of their service in the military.
Mystic Dunes Resort and Golf Club, the timeshare vacation property in Celebration, is now offering a deal for members of the armed services, said Chris Crosby, the resort’s golf sales manager.
“We just got approved for a military discount,” he said. “If you have a military member stay with you, we will give them a 50 percent discount on our rack rate.”
The Rack Rate applies to the walk in rate at the golf club for guests who want to play a round of golf there.
In addition to the steep discount, Crosby also said they were going to be giving those military family members something extra on their way to the golf course.
“We will give them a sleeve of golf balls as well,” he said.
Mystic Dunes is a timeshare resort at 7850 Shadow Tree Lane in Celebration that opened nearly a decade ago. The vacation villas available there are fully furnished, and guests can choose from 986 one, two and three-bedroom villas, each with a breakfast bar and dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. There’s also a private whirlpool bath in the master bedroom.
The resort is also well known for the par 71 course designed by Champions Tour Player and NBC golf analyst Gary Koch. The golf course has become known for its 80-foot elevation changes, rolling sand dunes, mature oaks and large wetland areas. The course also includes several signature holes, 36 bunkers, two holes with surrounding water and two designated island holes.
Crosby said the discount was the resort’s way of paying tribute to, and thanking, this nation’s members of the armed services and their contributions to making the world a safer place.
“That’s a really good discount,” he said, adding that it would extend to whoever those military veterans bring with them to the resort.
“If they have friends staying with them, they get a 25 percent discount as well,” Crosby said.
It’s also a new policy, he added.
“We’re honoring it effective immediately,” Crosby said. “I’ve worked in the attractions industry for years, and when I came in at Mystic Dunes, I put that on the table and said, ‘Hey, what can we do?’ I love the military and love what they do. We literally just got it approved two weeks ago, so it’s brand new. If anyone walks in with an active military I.D. or even a retired military I.D., we will honor them.”
Crosby said he plans to take this discount on the road, traveling over the coming weeks to military bases in Florida and Georgia to let members of the armed services know about it.
“I’m going to be traveling to eight military bases over the next few months that are regional to promote this,” he said. “I’ve done these shows before, and they’re very well attended. There’s nobody in the military world who is focusing on golf right now.”
This morning, Mystic Dunes hosted the monthly meeting of the Central Florida Vacation Rental Managers Association, the trade group representing vacation home property managers across the region.
Crosby said in addition to helping members of the military, the timeshare resort would also be establishing a referral program to members of the CFVRMA. If the property managers refer their guests to Mystic Dunes, those guests get a 15 percent discount during their trip to the golf club.
“We are in the process of putting together a referral program,” Crosby said. “We’re here to serve you guys any way we can.”
Mystic Dunes is also advertising other special packages available to the general public, including a Bed & Breakfast package that offers accommodations in a one, two or three bedroom villa, complimentary daily breakfast for two at its Kenzie’s Restaurant and Lounge, and a 50 percent discount on greens fees, good for up to two people.
There’s also a Golf Getaway package offering accommodations, one round of golf per person each day — including greens fees and a shared golf cart — complimentary range balls, and 25 percent off the club rental.
Kenzie’s Restaurant also hosts “Date Night With Sinatra,” an evening of entertainment in the clubhouse, on Wednesdays from 7-9 p.m.
